
The Central Government has officially notified the appointment of Justices N. Kotiswar Singh and R. Mahadevan as judges of the Supreme Court of India, following recommendations by the collegium. The collegium emphasized the importance of diversity on the bench when recommending both judges.
Once Justices N. Kotiswar Singh and R. Mahadevan are sworn in, the Supreme Court will have its full complement of 34 judges. Justice N Kotiswar Singh is the first judge from Manipur to be elevated to the Supreme Court. He is currently Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. Justice R. Mahadevan is currently the acting Chief Justice of Madras High Court.
