Centre on Friday extended the ongoing nationwide COVID-19 lockdown by two more weeks after May 4. So the lockdown will be in effect till May 17th but with considerable relaxations in districts which are classified into green and orange zones.
The announcement was made by the Ministry of Home Affairs, two days ahead of the day for the end of the second phase of lockdown.
After a comprehensive review, and in view of the lockdown measures having led to significant gains in the COVID-19 situation in the country, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India (GoI) issued an Order under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, today, to further extend the lockdown for a further period of two weeks beyond May 4, 2020," said a home ministry notification.
“Movement of migrant workers, pilgrims, tourists, students and other persons, stranded at different places, is also allowed by special trains to be operated by the Ministry of Railways,” a notification from the Ministry of Home Affairs read.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 14 had extended the lockdown until at least May 3 to contain the spread of novel coronavirus.
