Delhi LG Overrules AAP Govt’s Order, Medical Treatment Should Not Be Denied To Non-Residents

Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal has overruled Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s controversial decision to restrict people from other states from getting COVID-19 treatment at Delhi government-run hospitals. Centre’s representative, Delhi LG ordered that no person should be denied treatment on the ground of not being a resident of Delhi.

Delhi LG today as Chairperson of the DDMA (Delhi Disaster Management Authority) has directed departments and authorities of NCT of Delhi to ensure that treatment is not denied to any patient on grounds of not being a resident of Delhi. This decision will bring relief to patients and their families from outside Delhi who are seeking treatment during the coronavirus pandemic.

On Sunday, in a cabinet meeting Delhi Government has decided that Government along with private hospitals will be reserved for the treatment of residents of Delhi. While central government and specialty private hospitals will be allowed for the treatment of people from across the country.

The LG also overturned the Delhi government’s order on testing only those showing COVID-19 symptoms and said asymptomatic cases and high-risk contacts must be tested too.

“All government and private hospitals and nursing homes situated in the NCT of Delhi to extend medical facilities to all covid-19 patients coming for monitoring/treatment without any discrimination of being residents of NCT of Delhi," the order issued by the LG said.

The order cleared that 'Right to Health' is an integral part of "Right to Life" under Article 21 of the Constitution.
