Government Notifies Aadhaar Amendment Rules, Permits Private Entities To Use Aadhaar For Authentication
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has issued the Aadhaar Authentication for Good Governance (Social Welfare, Innovation, Knowledge) Amendment Rules, 2025, under the Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and Other Subsidies, Benefits and Services) Act, 2016.
The amendment permits both government and private entities to utilize Aadhaar authentication services for delivering various public interest services. It encompasses sectors such as e-commerce, travel, tourism, hospitality, and healthcare.
Entities seeking Aadhaar authentication must submit detailed applications specifying their requirements to the relevant Central or State government ministry or department through a designated portal. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) will review the applications, and MeitY will grant approval based on UIDAI's recommendations. Upon receiving MeitY's confirmation, the concerned ministry or department will officially notify the entity for Aadhaar usage.
