The National Medical Commission (NMC) issued a new advisory for Indian students planning to pursue undergraduate medical courses abroad. Dated November 22, 2024, and published on November 27, 2024, the advisory emphasizes the importance of following specific regulations and standards to ensure eligibility for medical practice in India.
The authorities have emphasized that students must comply with the Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiates (FMGL) regulations, which outline requirements regarding study duration, medium of instruction, syllabus, and clinical training or internships/clerkships. Adhering to these guidelines is mandatory for obtaining registration to practice allopathic medicine in India.
The advisory warns that attending institutions that do not comply with NMC guidelines may pose risks, as it could prevent students from being eligible to practice medicine in India after completing their studies.
