Supreme Court Asks Telcos To Furnish Audited Balance Sheets Of Last 10 Years In AGR Case; Govt To Withdraw Demand From PSUs

The Supreme Court on Thursday has directed the telcos to file audited balance sheets of the past 10 years, come up with payment proposals and asked the telecom department to consider them.

The Bench of Justices Arun Mishra, S Abdul Nazeer, and MR Shah took up the case for hearing today via video conferencing.

The bench also noted that the DoT has withdrawn 96% of the over Rs 4 lakh crore claims levied against PSUs.

The direction comes as the telcos sought 20 year timeline to clear their AGR dues without any additional bank guarantee or personal guarantees. The top court however asked the operators to come up with payment proposal and asked the telecom department to look in to them.

Earlier, the Court had pulled up the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) for making AGR demands from Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), saying that its October 2019 judgment was "being misused" by demanding AGR dues from the PSUs.

The next hearing in the matter has been scheduled for the third week of July.
