Supreme Court Judges Gave Virtual Farewell to Justice Deepak Gupta on Retirement Day
Justice Gupta became the first Supreme Court judge to get a virtual farewell amid the third phase of the national COVID-19 lockdown. Supreme Court Bar Association organised virtual adieu to the judge, as he completed 42 years of service. The function was attended by CJI SA Bobde, several judges, Attorney General K.K. Venugopal, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, SCBA President Dushyant Dave, along with other advocates. Justice Deepak Gupta also rendered a farewell address on the occasion. Justice Deepak Gupta said every judge’s Bible in court should only be the Constitution of India during farewell. “In times of crisis, especially a crisis like this it is not you and I, whose constitutional rights will be violated. It’s the poorest of the poor, whose constitutional rights are always violated,” he said. Justice Gupta was appointed Chief Justice of Chhattisgarh High Court in 2016 and elevated as a Supreme Court Judge in 2017.
