
Supreme Court Stays Implementation Of Three Farm Laws Until Further Orders; Forms A Committee To Hold Talks
The Supreme Court on January 12 stayed implementation of three farm laws until further orders.
The Court also ordered the formation of a four-member committee to hear the farmers’ association and the Government over the three farm laws which caused protests at Delhi borders Since November, 2020. The committee would hear all objections to the law. Those who wish to appear before it can do so. The committee will report back to the court.
The committee will comprise Bhupinder Singh Mann (National President of Bharatiya Kisan Union), Dr. Pramod Kumar Joshi, Ashok Gulati (Agricultural Economist) and Anil Ghanwat (President of Shetkari Sanghatana).
"We are going to suspend the implementation of the three farm laws until further orders", Chief Justice of India SA Bobde said during the hearing of batch of petitions challenging the laws.
The three-judge bench of Chief Justice of India SA Bobde, Justice AS Bopana and Justice V Ramasubramanian heard arguments from both sides on January 11 and January 12. A detailed copy of order is yet to be published on the Supreme Court website.
The court also issued notice to the unions of farmers on a plea by Delhi police to restrain a proposed tractors rally to disrupt Republic Day function.
